THOMPSON STATEMENT ON FATAL SHOOTING OF POLICE OFFICER EDWARDS |

New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson Jr. today issued the following statement regarding the fatal shooting of New York City Police Officer Omar J. Edwards:
“I would like to express my deepest condolences to Officer Edwards’ wife, his two children and his family. Given the circumstances and many questions surrounding this horrible incident, there must be an independent investigation to determine what happened. Changes must be made in police procedure and training to prevent a tragedy like this from ever happening again.”
