THOMPSON STATEMENT ON DEATH OF THOMAS MINTER

New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. issued the following statement today on the death of Thomas K. Minter, a former Deputy Commissioner and Secretary of the federal Bureau of Elementary and Secondary Education and Deputy Chancellor with the New York City Board of Education:

I am saddened to learn of the loss of Tom Minter. Dr. Minter was not only a great educator but a great person who truly believed in abolishing inequities in our schools and leveling the educational playing field for our nation’s children. Whether it was in his role on a national or city front, Dr. Minter sought to achieve the best standards for students with a distinguished grace and even hand. Simply put: he was a classy guy with a big heart and, I am sure, a lasting legacy.
