THOMPSON STATEMENT ON THWARTED TERRORIST ATTACK

New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. today issued the following statement regarding the thwarted terrorist plot to bomb two Bronx synagogues and planes at the Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh:

“I applaud the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the New York City Police Department, and other law enforcement agencies for working so diligently to ensure that this terrorist attack was not carried out.

I am grateful that all the members of the Riverdale Temple and the Riverdale Jewish Center, as well as military personnel at the Newburgh base, are all safe.

Although it appears that these militants do not have ties to a larger terrorist organization, it is painfully obvious that the threat of terrorism – both foreign and domestic – is still a reality.

We must continue to work diligently to send the message that crimes of hate against Jewish New Yorkers will not be tolerated. Places of worship are sacred, and an assault on one is a crime against all. Acts of violence affect all of us, regardless of ethnicity, race, or religious beliefs.”
