THOMPSON STATEMENT ON FILM PRODUCTION CREDIT PROGRAM |
|
New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. today issued the following statement regarding the announcement that the State budget agreement includes $350 million in new authorizations for the New York State Film Production Credit Program:
I am proud to have stood with representatives of the film and production industries in recent weeks to help fight for this extension, and am glad that our State leaders are acknowledging the value of this program.
Funding this program means that the State has allowed New York City to continue its starring role as a destination for movie and television production.
It is distressing that we have already witnessed a number of productions leave New York for other locales.
However, I urge State leaders to take this a step further and extend this program beyond one year. Doing so will help ensure the retention and creation of jobs in a time of great financial stress, and display a long-term commitment to an industry vital to our economy.
