THOMPSON STATEMENT ON THE DEATH OF LATIN MUSIC LEGEND RALPH MERCADO

New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. today issued the following statement on the death of Latin Music legend Ralph Mercado:

“I join all New Yorkers in mourning the death of Ralph Mercado, a true pioneer in the field of Latin music.  For more than three decades, Ralph managed and promoted some of the biggest stars in the industry, effectively spreading the popularity of salsa music throughout the world.  He embodied the best attributes that New York City has to offer, including a love for his culture and a commitment to hard work that enabled him to become a legend in his field. He will be sorely missed.  My thoughts and prayers go out to the Mercado family and the family of artists who were lucky enough to have known and benefited from his talents.”
