Thompson Jr. joined United Federation of Teachers (UFT) President Randi Weingarten and dozens of New York City’s 28,000 home-based child care providers at a City Hall news conference on February 25, 2009 to protest the city’s continued refusal to pay them overdue and state-mandated raises while planning to spend $45 million to retrain unemployed investment bankers, traders and other laid-off Wall Street workers.
