THOMPSON STATEMENT ON MTA’S PROPOSED WEEKEND SERVICE CUTS |
|
New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. today issued the following statement after the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) presented cuts to weekend service on the lettered lines at its New York City Transit committee meeting:
“The MTA would be acting in bad faith if it moves forward with these proposed weekend subway cuts before Albany acts on its budget.
These weekend reductions on the lettered lines – where service is already miserable – came before the public just weeks ago as part of the MTA’s public hearings with the understanding that the MTA would implement them only if the State legislature failed to fund transit this March.
The legislature still has time to act, as it must, so the MTA should withdraw this proposal until the budget picture is clear. The MTA’s credibility depends on it.”
Last week, Thompson unveiled an online chart and map system to help transit users understand the potential impacts of the MTA’s proposed service cuts. That system can be utilized at www.comptroller.nyc.gov.
