THOMPSON: CONGRESS MUST RESTORE CITY FUNDING TO PREVENT TERRORIST ATTACKS |
|
View Letter
New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. is strongly urging Congress to restore $40 million in funds to New York City as part of the federally funded Securing the Cities initiative.
“New York City remains the single highest terrorist target in the United States,” Thompson said. “The potential of a terrorist attack involving a nuclear or radiological weapon continues to be a particular concern for law enforcement and these federal funds are critically important to both detect and deter these threats.”
In a letter to key members of the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives – available at www.comptroller.nyc.gov – Thompson stressed that maintaining and fully funding this program will supply New York City with the resources necessary to sustain and enhance current operations by the NYPD and other law enforcement agencies.
“Our City has endured two major terrorist attacks and recent events have served as yet another stark reminder of our City’s vulnerability,” Thompson wrote. “I urge that these resources be made available as soon as possible.”
