New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson Jr. delivers remarks to the Lehman College graduating class of 2009 on May 28, 2009. |
New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. today addressed thousands of graduates, students, faculty, and family members at the 41st Commencement Ceremony at Lehman College in the Bronx.
“You should all be proud of what you have accomplished, never forgetting what you have sacrificed in order to get here,” Thompson said to the graduates. “You should also keep in mind those who made it possible for you to be here today. Your family, friends, faculty and fellow students all share in this momentous occasion, and I am happy to be able to share in it as well.”
The Comptroller also drew on President Barack Obama’s selection this week of Sonia Sotomayor, a Bronx-born New Yorker, to serve on the United States Supreme Court as inspiration for all in the audience to continue to strive to achieve.
“This has been a great week for the Bronx, and all of New York. The recent selection of Sonia Sotomayor to serve on the Supreme Court, our nation’s highest court, should resonate with all of you in attendance and provide the motivation to accomplish what you set out to do,” Thompson said. “Nothing is impossible.”
