View letter
New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. today urged Cablevision to enter into an agreement with Univision 41 to provide the channel to Cablevision subscribers:
In a letter to Cablevision’s Chief Operating Officer, which can be viewed at www.comptroller.nyc.gov, Thompson wrote: “It has recently come to my attention that the current agreement between Univision and Cablevision regarding the carriage of WXTV Univision 41 will expire the end of this month and that Cablevision has not entered into a new agreement with Univision for the carriage of such critical programming.”
He continued: “I now write to urge Cablevision to do everything within its power to ensure that a new agreement is promptly reached so as to ensure that this major source of news programming to the Hispanic community will continue to be available without interruption.”
Thompson noted that Univision is the leading Spanish-language media company in the country. He also indicated that with approximately 4.3 million Latinos in the City, Univision is an extremely valuable news source.
“It is therefore imperative that Cablevision take all the necessary steps to negotiate a new agreement with Univision and ensure that such a vital resource continue to be made available to all of Cablevision’s New York City subscribers, including the many Hispanic residents who so heavily rely on that resource,” Thompson wrote.
