New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. today congratulated David Jeter, Assistant Comptroller for Asset Management, for receiving a Sloan Public Service Award honoring recognizing outstanding City employees.
“David has devoted more than two decades of his life to transforming the way that the pension funds manage cash and investments for City workers and pensioners,” Thompson said. “A highly-valued member of our asset management division, many of our recent successes have been the result of David’s support and leadership. During these tough economic times, we are even more privileged to have people like David on our team.”
The Sloan Public Service Award – the leading independent honor for City employees – is presented each year by the Fund for the City of New York to recognize civil servants for their outstanding work and commitment to the public.
A respected 23-year veteran of the office of the New York City Comptroller, Jeter is recognized for transforming the City’s pension fund management from a cumbersome and largely manual process to one in which monitoring investments is streamlined and transparent. He was appointed Assistant Comptroller for Asset Management in 2001 and is responsible for overseeing the cash management and investments of the City’s five public pension funds.
Jeter, who lives in Queens, said of this honor, “Pension funds are often the subject of public debate – especially in our recent economy – but I love working behind the scenes on the operational end of things: what goes into managing them, figuring out how to simplify the accounting process and make it gradually more transparent and easier to understand. It may seem like an awesome responsibility, but we are always learning and we take it one day at a time.”
