New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. talks about neighborhood concerns - such as quality-of-life problems and economic woes - with residents and community leaders at a breakfast forum in Far Rockaway, Queens on January 21, 2009. |
New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. met with several dozen community leaders and residents of Far Rockaway in Queens this morning to discuss transportation, crime, quality-of-life and other concerns.
During the hour-and-15 minute discussion at the Peninsula Center for Extended Care and Rehabilitation, the Comptroller fielded questions about education, fare hikes, and job losses gripping the city.
During the discussion, Thompson criticized proposals to increase fares for those who utilize Access-A-Ride and to post tolls on the East and Harlem, and reasserted his support for renewal of a commuter tax.
“The effort to raise fares for New Yorkers who use Access-A-Ride is disgraceful,” Thompson said. “When you talk about unfair, that is incredibly unfair.”
