THOMPSON STATEMENT ON PASSING OF BEATING VICTIM

New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. issued the following statement regarding the passing of Jose Osvaldo Sucuzhanay:

I am saddened to learn of the death of Jose Osvaldo Sucuzhanay. His passing should be a call to action, for if we are silent then hate and bigotry can fester and thrive. We must all stand together against those who inflict such harm. We must work so that our city is one where all people - no matter their ethnicity, immigration status, sexual orientation, or any characteristic - feel safe in all communities. I extend my condolences to Jose's family and friends, and urge anyone with information about the perpetrators of this horrible crime to please step forward. This crime must be punished.
