THOMPSON STATEMENT ON DEATH OF GERALD SCHOENFELD |
|
New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. issued the following statement today concerning the passing of Gerald Schoenfeld:
“I am extremely saddened by the passing of Gerald Schoenfeld. Throughout his career, Mr. Schoenfeld brought a tireless advocacy and energy and dedication to the world of New York theater. He inspired those around him and contributed tremendously to the quality of life in our city. He will be sorely missed.
I am proud to say that, in 2005, my office presented Mr. Schoenfeld with a Lifetime Achievement Award at our annual Jewish Heritage event. As Chairman of the Board of the Shubert Organization, Mr. Schoenfeld played a key role in the development of modern American theater, overseeing the production of countless classic plays, musicals, and other dramatic pieces. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr. Schoenfeld was heavily involved in community development and civic affairs in New York City. He will be sorely missed.”
