COMPTROLLER THOMPSON STATEMENT ON MUMBAI TERRORIST ATTACKS |
|
New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. issued the following statement today condemning the terrorist attacks in Mumbai:
The terrorist attacks in Mumbai represent the worst of humanity. New Yorkers who have been witness to the evil touch of terrorism know firsthand about the devastating impact, and the need to persevere and prevail. We share India’s pain and offer our heartfelt prayers amid this time of tragedy.
Hundreds of innocent people already have been either killed or injured in these coordinated attacks, many apparently singled out because of their religion or heritage.
We as a society cannot and should not tolerate terrorist actions designed to unravel democracy by taking lives and promoting fear. What has happened abroad should remind us that the fight against terrorism is unyielding, and that we must stand together to combat bigotry and violence.
