THOMPSON STATEMENT ON GOVERNOR’S CALL TO ADDRESS MORTGAGE CRISIS

New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. issued the following statement today concerning Governor Paterson’s call for Federal and State action to address the mortgage crisis:

“I wholeheartedly support Governor Paterson’s call on the Federal and State legislatures to take immediate action to help save our homes. We must work quickly to find viable, long term, and affordable solutions that assist residents and preserve the economy.

The growing Mortgage Crisis threatens the economic vitality of our City and State. Too many New Yorkers are faced with the prospect of losing their homes to foreclosure. My office's Foreclosure Prevention Helpline and our collaboration with my colleagues in government have been helping to save the homes of New Yorkers. But much more needs to be done.”
