COMPTROLLER THOMPSON STATEMENT ON WORLD TRADE CENTER INSURANCE SETTLEMENTS

New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. today issued the following statement after Governor Eliot Spitzer, State Insurance Superintendent Eric R. Dinallo and leaseholder Silverstein Properties announced an agreement to resolve lawsuits with seven insurance companies over outstanding insurance claims stemming from the attacks on the World Trade Center:

I commend Governor Spitzer for achieving such an overwhelmingly positive settlement for the future of New York City and Lower Manhattan. This represents an important acceleration of the process to ensure the growth and vitality of Lower Manhattan. I and others have persistently urged insurance companies to come to the table and I am gratified that they have finally forged such a beneficial agreement.
