| COMPTROLLER THOMPSON STATEMENT ON GOVERNOR’S MARRIAGE EQUALITY BILL |

New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. today released the following statement regarding Governor Spitzer’s bill to enact marriage equality for same-sex couples in New York State:
“Governor Spitzer’s action speaks volumes about his commitment to ensuring equality for all. There is no doubt in my mind that same-sex couples deserve the same legal protections as heterosexual couples in this state and in this country. The opportunity for gay and lesbian couples to marry is a fundamental issue of civil rights. How we choose a life partner should not jeopardize the status under law of that committed relationship.”
