| STATEMENT BY NEW YORK CITY COMPTROLLER WILLIAM C. THOMPSON, JR. ON MAYOR’S FY 2008 EXECUTIVE BUDGET
New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. today issued the following statement regarding Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Fiscal Year 2008 Executive Budget:
“Mayor Bloomberg has presented a good-news budget that wisely addresses the need to apply funds to resolve significant gaps in the out-years. The surplus identified in the Mayor’s plan is largely a reflection of the robust local economy, and insulates people from the inevitable economic downturn. In times of prosperity we must take steps so that we do not have to return to New Yorkers to ask them to dip into their pockets when times are bad. The budget is fiscal integrity at its best, and displays a continuous commitment toward achieving fiscal stability.”
