New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. today issued the following statement on Mayor Bloomberg’s proposed Fiscal Year 2008 Preliminary Budget and four-year financial plan for the City:
“There is no question that the Mayor’s preliminary budget is in balance. As I reported last week, New York City’s economy is booming and generating revenues. The Mayor has recognized that this is an opportunity to strengthen both the economy and future budgets. The strong economy is enabling the City to set aside funds to address future needs and to prepare for an inevitable downturn in the business cycle. I am delighted that the Mayor has proposed to provide broad-based tax relief. The people of New York City helped us through the tough times, and now that times are good it’s important to give back.”
