THOMPSON HONORS FIVE NEW YORKERS AT VETERANS’ RECOGNITION EVENT

New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. honored five New Yorkers for their accomplishments during his 2007 Veterans’ Recognition Ceremony at a City Hall ceremony last night.

The event was co-sponsored by the Intrepid Air, Sea & Space Museum and the American Legion of the State of New York.

 “As we reflect on those who served in the past and those who are serving now, we recommit ourselves to we recommit ourselves to the values of patriotism, courage and bravery, and to doing all we can to recognize the contributions and the sacrifices of America’s veterans,” Thompson said. “This evening, we are honoring a distinguished group of men and women who served our country with valor, and who have served our city admirably through their leadership and by their example”

The distinguished honorees were: Joseph A. Bello, Assistant Director, Center for Veterans, Youth and Adults, LaGuardia Community College, and Founder & Editor, New York City Veterans Newsletter; Wolf A. Popper, President, Wolf A. Popper, Inc.; Alice F. Jones, Assistant Director (New York), Veterans Employment & Training Service, U.S. Department of Labor; Lee A. Archer, Jr., Tuskegee Airman and Distinguished Flying Cross Recipient; and, William M. Wheeler, Tuskegee Airman and Congressional Gold Medal Recipient.
