THOMPSON STATEMENT ON ANNOUNCED SALE OF STUYVESANT TOWN AND PETER COOPER VILLAGE TO TISHMAN SPEYER PROPERTIES AND BLACKROCK REALTY

Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. made the following statement today regarding the announced sale of Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village to Tishman Speyer Properties and BlackRock Realty:

“I am deeply disappointed that Metropolitan Life rushed to sign a deal without giving serious consideration to the offer submitted by the residents of Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village. I am heartened that Tishman Speyer has a credible reputation and longstanding commitment to New York City, and I will endeavor to ensure that the new owners commit to preserving the development’s affordable housing, not just for the immediate future, but for many years to come.”
