THOMPSON
CRITICIZES DECREASE IN FEDERAL ANTI-TERRORISM GRANT FOR NEW YORK CITY |
| Comptroller
William C. Thompson, Jr. today released the following statement regarding
the reported decrease in federal anti-terrorism funds to New York
City:
“By proposing steep cuts in our anti-terrorism grants, the
Bush Administration is once again turning its back on New York City.
In the wake of September 11, President Bush promised more than $21
billion in aid for our City, but failed to come through with the
full amount. Now, the Department of Homeland Security plans to cut
anti-terrorism funding for the City hardest hit by the terrorist
attacks on our nation. I urge the Department of Homeland Security
and the Bush Administration to rethink its formula for awarding
these grants and provide sufficient funds to protect our City and
its residents.”
