City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. today issued the following statement regarding the loss of funding for services provided to New Yorkers living with HIV and AIDS:
“New Yorkers living with HIV and AIDS need access to services in their own neighborhoods. It is incumbent upon the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to stop shortchanging New Yorkers living with HIV and AIDS and ensure that services are distributed fairly and equitably throughout all the boroughs. ”
On Thursday, Comptroller Thompson criticized a Department of Health & Mental Hygiene contract, which he found failed to provide services to individuals with HIV and AIDS based on geographic need.
