Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. issued the following statement regarding Housing Here and Now's tour of distressed buildings in Washington Heights on March 23, 2006.

"We are here to send New York Community Bank and every other bank operating in New York City a message: we will not let you profit off of disrepair. We will not allow any bank to shun its responsibility to the neighborhoods in which it lends by acting as the bank of choice for irresponsible landlords."
