STATEMENT BY NEW YORK CITY COMPTROLLER WILLIAM C. THOMPSON, JR. ON ALLEGED MISTREATMENT OF ZHENXING JIANG
|
| Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. today issued the following statement concerning the alleged mistreatment by federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials of Chinese immigrant Zhenxing Jiang:
“I am appalled by the reports over the mistreatment of Mrs. Zhenxing Jiang by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials, resulting in the death of her unborn twins. There is absolutely no excuse or justification for the reported treatment suffered by Mrs. Jiang, regardless of her immigration status. While I welcome the decision of the ICE reinstating Mrs. Jiang’s order of supervision for six months pending the completion of its own internal investigation, I urge United States Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to initiate and conduct his own impartial and independent investigation into this tragic event.”
