The following is a statement from New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. on the passing of Coretta Scott King, widow of slain Civil Rights Leader Martin Luther King, Jr.:

"The world mourns the loss of Coretta Scott King, who courageously carried on her husband's legacy of fighting for peace and equality and became a leader in her own right. She will be remembered for her quiet strength and untiring dedication to the cause of human rights for generations to come."
