City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. has announced that Lewis Finkelman will serve as his Deputy Comptroller for Legal Affairs and General Counsel.
“Mr. Finkelman has a distinguished career in government and I am confident that his appointment will further enhance the role of this office,” the Comptroller said in a memo to staff.
Finkelman has served as First Deputy Commissioner and General Counsel to the New York City Department of Administrative Services since January 2004. Previously, he served as Deputy Commissioner for Legal Services and General Counsel at the agency.
Finkelman previously held a number of titles at the New York City Corporation Counsel’s Office between 1986 and 2002.
He served as Chief, Deputy Chief and Senior Litigator of the Commercial and Real Estate Litigation division, and Assistant Chief and Assistant Corporation Counsel for Commercial Litigation.
A graduate of Brooklyn Law School and Brooklyn College, Finkelman will advise the Comptroller on a variety of legal matters, including issues relating to litigation, municipal finance, investments, pension funds, tax matters, agency audits, settlements, and proposed Federal, State and City legislation.
Finkelman will assume the new role on December 4.
