New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. today issued the following statement on Mayor Bloomberg's proposed Fiscal Year 2006 Preliminary Budget and four-year financial plan for the City:
“I am pleased that the Mayor's preliminary budget appears to be in balance, but I am concerned that it relies too heavily on state and federal aid that might not materialize, and could also be affected drastically by a decision in the Campaign for Fiscal Equity lawsuit. Additionally, I am troubled that the budget will be balanced in large measure by non-recurring revenues. We must make greater efforts to address the fact that we are spending more money than we have.”
