New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. announced today that Marcia J. Van Wagner will serve as Deputy Comptroller for Budget. Van Wagner will assume her new duties on February 14, 2005.
“ It is with great pleasure that I welcome Ms. Van Wagner to the Comptroller’s office,” Comptroller Thompson said. “Ms. Van Wagner brings a tremendous amount of experience and commitment to her field, and I am confident that she will be a valuable asset to my office.”
In her new position, Van Wagner will monitor New York City’s expense and capital budgets and prepare analyses of the city’s fiscal condition.
“I am thrilled by this opportunity to join the Comptroller’s team,” Van Wagner said. “Careful oversight of the City’s budget and timely evaluation of its fiscal outlook are critical to responsible government, and I look forward to helping the Comptroller continue to hold the City to high standards of fiscal management.”
Prior to this position, Van Wagner served as Deputy Research Director and Chief Economist for the Citizens Budget Commission since 2001. Van Wagner previously served as Director and Chief Economist for the Office of the State Deputy Comptroller for New York City and Vice President and Chief Economist of the New York City Economic Development Corporation.
