THOMPSON ANNOUNCES COMPUTER TRAINING PROGRAM WITH CWA LOCAL 1180
|
|
New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. today announced the formation of a computer training program between his office and Communications Workers of America Local 1180. The program will consist of a series of half-day sessions in September, October and November at 1180's state-of-the art computer center located in its union headquarters.
"This is an important and unique program," Thompson said. "Employees will be learning computer skills crucial to the increasingly technical demands of today's workplace during work hours."
Thompson expressed interest that he would pursue additional computer training programs with other unions if a similar agreement could be reached.
Linda Jenkins, First Vice President of CWA Local 1180, praised the program: "This is a wonderful opportunity for 1180 members to gain valuable skills that they can apply in the workplace. The joint computer training program will be tailored to the needs of the 1180 members and the Comptroller's office. It will be a great benefit for both our members and the agency."
The program will kick off this month with approximately 50 CWA Local 1180 union members. The training will cover Microsoft in great depth, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
