NYC COMPTROLLER WILLIAM C. THOMPSON JR.'S STATEMENT IN SUPPORT OF PROPOSED EXPANSION OF MADISON AVENUE BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT

The expansion of the Madison Avenue Business Improvement District (BID) from its current boundary at East 61 st Street southward to East 57 th Street makes sense not only because 57 th Street is the natural gateway to the existing BID area but also because of the excellent service the BID provides to property owners and commercial tenants.

Many of the businesses located within the proposed expansion area already participate in the Madison Avenue BID’s marketing programs, including Fashion Meets Art, Pink Ribbon Project and Crystal District events. This involvement speaks to an understanding and appreciation of all that the BID has to offer.

A majority of the property owners within the current boundaries and in the expansion area have given their approval to the Madison Avenue BID. This BID is a great example of a public-private partnership that works effectively and efficiently to improve the quality of life for property owners, merchants and residents.
