THOMPSON OPPOSES CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT BANNING GAY MARRIAGE
New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. today announced his opposition to President Bush’s proposal to amend the Constitution to prohibit gays and lesbians from marrying.

“This is an absolute abuse of the constitutional amendment process and nothing more than political pandering on the part of the president,” Comptroller Thompson said. “As a longtime supporter of the right of gays and lesbians to marry, I am outraged by the president’s action.”
