New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. honored Tony-recipient
Denis O’Hare, songwriter-playwright Bruce Sussman, and five
other leaders in business and the community at his 2003 Lesbian,
Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Celebration on Wednesday, June 18th.
Thompson lauded the honorees for excelling in their fields and
in their communities.
“Our successes are only possible because of the commitment,
tenacity, and leadership of so many people,” Thompson said
in addressing nearly 200 attendees at The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual
and Transgender Community Center in Manhattan. “We honor a
special group of outstanding individuals who have displayed these
qualities and made great contributions to the life of our city.”
O’Hare has received a Tony, Village Voice Obie Award, a Drama
Desk Award, a Lucille Lortel Award and honors from the Outer Critics
Circle for his performance in Broadway’s “Take Me Out.”
Thompson also honored:

New York City
- Lavender Light: The Black and People of All Colors Lesbian
and Gay Gospel Choir, performed during the celebration.
