Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. has appointed former Department
of Environmental Protection Commissioner Marilyn G. Gelber and Special
Assistant Arelis Echevarria to the city's Procurement Policy Board.
"I am proud to appoint two individuals who bring commitment
and experience to the table," Comptroller Thompson said. "In
these difficult fiscal times, we need to ensure thorough accountability
and oversight. I am sure Ms. Gelber and Ms. Echevarria will prove
to be valuable assets to the board."
Gelber is the Executive Director of the Independence Community
Foundation. She previously served as Commissioner of the DEP, Chief
of Staff for former Brooklyn Borough President Howard Golden, and
Director of Neighborhood Strategy Planning for the New York City
Department of City Planning.
Last year, the borough president appointed her to represent Brooklyn
on the New York City Planning Commission.
Echevarria, a Special Assistant to the Comptroller, is a lifetime
Brooklyn resident and a product of the public school system. She
holds a Masters degree in Public Administration from Baruch College's
School of Public Affairs.
The Procurement Board sets City and enforces policies and rules
concerning the procurement of goods, services and construction by
all City agencies. The Board consists of five members, three appointed
by the Mayor and two by the Comptroller.
