| The Association
for a Better New York and One Hundred Black Men, Inc. will present
New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. and former President
William Jefferson Clinton with the 2002 Brotherhood Award on Wednesday,
June 19. The award recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves
in their commitments to brotherhood.
Since 1978, the Association and One Hundred Black Men have presented
the awards to reaffirm the spirit of brotherhood. The ceremony will
bring together city and state officials, as well as members and
friends of both groups.
Thompson assumed office as the city's first African American Comptroller
on January 1, 2002. Born in Brooklyn, he is a lifelong New Yorker,
the son of a judge and public school teacher, and the proud product
of New York City public schools.
In 1983, Mr. Thompson was appointed Brooklyn's youngest-ever Deputy
Borough President by Brooklyn Borough President Howard Golden. In
1994, Mr. Thompson was appointed to the New York City Board of Education
as its Brooklyn Member. Two years later, he began serving the first
of four consecutive terms as its President.
The 25th Annual Brotherhood Awards & Reception will take place
at the Sky Club, 200 Park Avenue, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. JP Morgan
Chase and Pace University are cosponsoring the event.
