Comprehensive Annual Financial Report
The Comptroller’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) is a New York City Charter mandate §93(l) that requires its publishing within four months after the close of each fiscal year. The CAFR can be used as a resource tool to obtain information on the following:
- Comptroller’s Letter of Transmittal: brief explanation of each Bureaus impact to the City during the fiscal year
- Independent Auditors’ Report: provides the auditors’ most recent opinion concerning the City’s audited financials.
- Management’s Discussion and Analysis: executive summary of the financials
- Government-wide and Fund Financial Statements: financial statements prepared in accordance with Accounting policy and standards.
- Notes to Financial Statements & Required Supplementary Information: provides an explanation for numbers that appear in the financials.
- Fiduciary Fund Statements: financial statements for the various Retirement Systems
- General & Capital Fund detail schedules of Revenues and Expenditures: provides a summary of Revenues & Expenditures by City agency and by program.
- Financial Trends and other Statistical Information: Required supplementary information as per the Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) statement no. 34.
